On the eve of the anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, The Hub with Wang Guan looks at what's protracting the crisis and the impact of two major visits. China's senior diplomat Wang Yi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and U.S. President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine. Victor Gao Zhikai, chair professor at Soochow University, and Einar Tangen, current affairs commentator, both call it the United States' "proxy war", using Ukrainians as a tool to weaken Russia and Europe. However, the West can't weaken the China-Russia partnership, which is "rock-solid" and the "cornerstone of global peace and security." As China urges peace and a political settlement to the crisis, the two experts urge an immediate ceasefire as an escalation could lead to a confrontation between nuclear-armed Washington and Moscow, which would lead to annihilation.
